The Great Shakespearean Bake-Off!

Enter the Great Shakespearean Bake-Off and win a ‘Picnic for Two’ at Stafford Festival Shakespeare 2017.

For this year’s production of The Tempest at Stafford Castle, caterers Sugnal Walled Garden have teamed up with Eccleshall bakery The Artisan to produce a one-off, specially crafted ‘Bard blended’ loaf!

The idea is the brainchild of Andrew Wilson, who has drawn up a number of other delicious menu choices for visitors to enjoy:

“Baked produce is a key component of this year’s dining options, which includes pre-booked picnics and Sugnall High Tea, with a fine selection of freshly made sub-sandwiches available on demand. As such, it made sense to partner with one of Staffordshire’s finest bakeries to create our own, one-of-a-kind Shakespearean bread.”

Inspiration was drawn from Shakespearean phrases featured throughout The Bard’s work, including ‘bread-chipper’, which is a “menial who cuts away the crust of a loaf”.

Andrew added:

“Shakespeare knew a lot about the process of making bread. In fact, as a little boy growing up in Stratford-upon-Avon, his bailiff father was responsible for checking on the quality and quantity of bread sold.”

To be in with a chance of winning a ‘Picnic for Two’ at Stafford Festival Shakespeare 2017, entrants are being asked to come up with a Shakespearean themed name for the ‘Bard blended’ loaf. Simply post your entry via Twitter using the hashtag #StaffordShakespeare to be entered in to the prize draw.

Entries will close at 4pm on Friday 19th May, with the winner set to be announced on Monday 22nd May. Full terms and conditions apply. For more information contact gatehouse@freedom-leisure.co.uk

The Tempest will open on Thursday 22nd June and run until Saturday 8th July 2017 at Stafford Castle. Established in 1991, Stafford Festival Shakespeare has fast become one of Europe's largest open air Shakespeare productions.
