Last chance to see The Tempest at the Castle this weekend

After an incredible run featuring award nominations and five star reviews, this year’s Stafford Festival Shakespeare production of The Tempest will be performed for the last time at Stafford Castle on Saturday 8th July.

The 27th annual Stafford Festival Shakespeare, produced by Stafford Gatehouse Theatre for Stafford Borough Council, opened on Thursday 22nd June after three weeks of rehearsals.

The show has received wide-spread acclaim, with critics citing the “insightful” approach of Director Clare Prenton and the 1930s setting of the play, with the set and costumes of Production Designer Frances Collier, as well as the work of Musical Director Craig Adams, also singled out for praise. The Tempest has also received a ‘Best Regional Stage Production’ nomination for the Break A Leg Awards 2017, with Stephen Beckett (Prospero), James Lawrence (Sebastian), Richard Gibson (Gonzalo), and Zephryn Taitte (Caliban) nominated for ‘Best Actor on Stage’, and Katrina Kleve (Francesca) and Grace Carter (Miranda) cited for ‘Best Actress on Stage’.

Prominent local figures have also shown their support for the production, with the Mayor of Stafford Borough, Cllr Aidan Thomas Arthur Godfrey, visiting the Castle last week to meet the cast and to collect a signed poster, which will be auctioned off to raise money for the Mayor’s chosen charity, Staffordshire Women’s Aid.

“I thought it was a brilliant performance complemented by fantastic sets, costumes and lighting, and it came as no surprise to me to hear the production has been nominated for a number of awards” commented the Mayor of Stafford.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in putting on this successful production and I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to buy a ticket quickly” concluded the Mayor of Stafford

The Tempest will run until this Saturday 8th July 2017 at Stafford Castle. Full ticket information and this year’s catering options can be obtained from the box office on 01785 619080 or by visiting www.staffordfestivalshakespeare.com
